Medical Spanish Club

The Medical Spanish Club is an organization within Creighton University School of Medicine that provides lessons and practice in medical Spanish and conversational skills. As future physicians, we are responsible for serving a wide variety of patient populations, and considering that Hispanics and other people of Latin American origin are among the fast growing minorities, it is imperative we understand some basics of the language as well as develop cultural competence. We provide an opportunity for medical students of all levels of linguistic ability to learn, develop, and improve their repertoire of medical Spanish as well as practice speaking. Some of the other skills we teach along with medical vocabulary are taking a patient history, how to handle cultural differences, and how manage a patient encounter while working with an interpreter.
